Red and blue police lights flashed on Delsea Drive on 9 May morning in tribute to Deptford Township Police Officer Robert “Bobby” Shisler.

Jones was among the first people to find Shisler after he was shot near Doman Avenue during an afternoon chase, and he applied a tourniquet to Schisler’s badly injured leg. Officers took Shisler to a police car and drove him to Cooper University Hospital in Camden. From there, he was transferred to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.

According to an obituary posted by the Boucher Funeral Home in Deptford ,Shisler, a Deptford native was graduated from Deptford High School in the year 2014, where he played football and baseball. His baseball skills earned him a place on the team at Presbyterian College. Jones said Shisler joined the police force four years ago, and served recently in the department’s patrol division.
Shisler also had a passion for weightlifting, even winning a National Physique Committee bodybuilding competition, but his impressive physique wasn’t the only thing about him that made an impression. He also attended Presbyterian College, South Carolina where he played Division 1 baseball.
Shisler was the first Deptford police officer killed in the line of duty, and also the first officer killed in Gloucester County since 1999. His colleagues are still covering from his death.
Detective Sgt. Robert Jones said “We have a playbook for everything else,” and “We are improvising about this, quite honestly.”
He also added “One of the things that first would hit you about Bobby was his smile,” “His smile was infectious.”

The younger brother of Shisler, Tyler Shisler is also a Deptford officer, and his grandfather was also a police officer. He was also survived by his parents, Robert and Tracy Shisler, and his sister, Ashley Shisler.

Shisler’s hospitalisation included many surgeries, and lost part of his right leg. Jones said that for two months,Shisler sometimes came to his senses, and became aware of the outpouring of support. The wife of another Deptford officer, Nichole Rodgers, set up a GoFundMe to help pay for the Shisler’s medical bills that has raised more than $144,000. She will continue collecting funds, she said on 9 May, to support his family. “His family is going to need all our support and love,” she added.

The department’s administration recommended officers to accept their feelings about Schisler’s death and acknowledge everything from anger to confusion and sadness.
“The kid was strong, the kid was tough,” Jones said. “This kid battled for 8 weeks out of sheer will”, Jones added.
“The support that we have gotten from our families – wives, husbands, fathers, mothers, children – has been tremendous, and we still have a long way to go. ” Jones said.
Joan Parks, married to the Deptford officer and was one of the people who waited outside the funeral home for Shisler’s arrival said “It’s heartbreaking,” “One of the saddest things I have ever experienced.”
Heather Worthington said, “Always supports blue,” . He was a friend of Shisler’s uncle from Magnolia.
Worthington and her daughter Avah were also among those who gathered outside the funeral home, due to their connection to Shisler’s family and the shock of his death.
She said, “He fought a hard fight”.
Deptford police officers, black and blue bands around their badges, gathered in the funeral home’s driveway. Some exchanged long embraces.
Nearly every official from Deptford took part in the caravan to claim Schiessler’s body in Philadelphia. A convoy of Deptford police cruisers, police motorcycles and a hearse departed from Boucher Funeral Home for the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office.
Dozens, many of them family members of the Deptford’s police force, maintained a procession outside the funeral home, waiting for the motorcade. They carried American flags and some of them wore black Deptford police department T-shirts embellished with Shisler’s name, badge number, and the phrase “We’ have got your six” — another way of saying “We have your back.”
